Today marks one year since the last Bi+ Ireland event we have had in person. This has been a tough year for all our volunteers and members. But still we persevere. Throughout the year, Bi+ Ireland members and volunteers helped each other through the often isolating days. It was near the very start of the pandemic that we launched our Discord channel, between this and our community Facebook group, there was/ is chats to be have on a daily basis. Our incredible volunteer, Irene, along with the occasional other volunteers, has helped provide a space for our members (and volunteers) to vent every Monday by modding a mental health checking post in our community Facebook group. Although, we can't see each other in person, that hasn't stopped us from meeting virtually over Zoom. In the past year Bi+ Ireland volunteer Cír has hosted 17 zoom events, with 2 more happening in the next week.
These are just some of the examples of how the Bi+ Ireland community stayed connected in a year with no face to face meet ups. And we want to take this moment to thank every one of our members and volunteers for keeping our community striving through a dark time in our shared history. We are looking forward to the day we can see each other again in person, but until then, us volunteers will take solace in the fact that our members make up a wonderful accepting community. We will continue to provide online spaces, even when in person meetings are allowed, as we know the value in remaining connected to all of our members but especially those who may be more isolated than others. So stay safe and know Bi+ Ireland is here for you.
